At camp, you’ll have the opportunity to experience many ‘firsts’ that will stay with you for a lifetime. It could be your first time working outside the UK, your first time being away from home for an extended period, or even your first time working with people from all around the world. And for some, it might be their first time visiting the US.
These ‘first’ experiences present a fantastic opportunity for personal and professional development. As a counselor, you’ll be responsible for leading and guiding your cabin of campers throughout the day, ensuring they wake up on time and attend all activities. Through this, you’ll develop confidence in leadership and communication, enabling you to engage with people from all walks of life. You’ll also have the chance to meet new people and develop your interpersonal skills, connecting with fellow counselors and campers of different ages.
Everyone’s camp experience is unique, and it impacts people in different ways. Here’s what some of our Your Open Ticket friends have to say about how camp helped them develop personally:
I became way more confident meeting new people. Being thrown into work with total strangers really develops your own life skills a lot more. I left camp feeling confident enough to do solo travel, something I never would have considered before camp. – Phillipa George
Camp allowed me to be a lot more outgoing. I have never been in an environment like a camp where everyone is there to support you and see you thrive. At first, I was quieter in large group settings but as the summer went on I was able to become more confident. Camp also taught me to see the positives in different situations, I wasn’t always excited to be leading an activity, but towards the end of summer, I found it much more fun which also made it more engaging for the children. – Fabienne Cochrane
Being out of my comfort zone in a foreign country has really allowed me to become more confident as a person. Camp allows you to take a step out of the adult world and almost become a kid again! – Callum Galbraith
